Chinese Medicine

Chinese medicine is based on herbal therapy and acupuncture.

Learn More

Over 400 Chinese herbs are in common use and prescribed by qualified Chinese doctors after consultation with patients. So prescribing the correct combination of herbs is essential. All herbs are processed to a high standard, being cleaned, dried and purified, and often blended with honey, ginger, vinegar or similar foods before being safe for use. Some herbs known to have mild side effects on their own (e.g, too calming or too stimulating) can be counteracted by other herbs in the same prescription. Chinese herbal medicine has been used and developed over thousands years and is very popular in China. The function of acupuncture is to unblock and regulate the meridians (energy channels) and then improve the flow of Qi (energy) and blood circulation in the body. The unique theories of Chinese medicine and miraculous therapeutic effects have fascinated more and more people in the world.

Chinese Herbs

As for herbal tablets and pills, ready-made herbal products are made according to traditional formulas that have been tested and refined over many centuries.

Learn More

All Chinese herbs are divided into different categories according to their properties in Traditional Chinese Medical theory: COLD, HOT, WARM and COOL. This means that some herbs of a ‘ COLD’ nature can remedy excess heat in your body, while others of a ‘ HOT’ nature can remedy excess cold in the body. After consultation, the Doctor will formulate a prescription based on the Chinese medicine principles they studied at TCM University and which suits the specific condition of your body.As for herbal tablets and pills, ready-made herbal products are made according to traditional formulas that have been tested and refined over many centuries. These are usually prescribed for fairly simple, common health conditions, where other factors in the patient’s health do not seem likely to be contributing. The Chinese have been using natural herbs to treat a wide variety of diseases and conditions for many centuries. These include roots, flowers, seeds, fruits, leaves and branches. The history of TCM goes back more than 3000 years. Chinese herbs have become available in extract powder form only in recent years, owing to technical advances in production methods, and this has made it easier and more convenient for people to take herbal medicine.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is usually carried out with disposable needles which are very fine.

Learn More

Some numbness, swelling or a sensation of heaviness is usual during or after a treatment, but the treatment is essentially painless. Acupuncture can help the energy flow and blood circulation by stimulating certain points in specific ways according to your personal body condition to smooth the meridians. The Qi and blood flow then work harmoniously to keep Yin and Yang energies in balance. Acupuncture is both a highly effective and a very safe form of therapy.

Cupping

Cupping is another safe and non-invasive treatment that is especially effective for relieving pain and improving blood circulation.

Learn More

Cups placed on specific points along the meridians exert a slight suction which sucks out dampness, excess cold, toxins and even stagnant blood that can collect in different parts of the body. Cups are made of different materials – usually glass, bamboo or porcelain. Cupping is performed in different ways (e.g., San Guan, Zou Guan) according to the nature of a person’s health and can detoxify and calm the body and increase overall vitality. It can also help to promote weight loss.

Massage

Acupressure and Chinese Tuina? Tuina is another method for improving Qi (energy) flow and blood circulation.

Learn More

It is a hands-on form of manipulation by the therapist, using the hands, elbows or forearms to stimulate specific points along the meridians, especially the areas between each of the joints, known as the Eight Gates. It is especially effective in treating both acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions, as well as many other conditions, and promotes general good health.Chinese Tuina is the basic skill of: Acupressure, Therapeutic massage, Deep tissue massage, Sports massage, Reflexology, Minimal/relaxation massage

OSTEO – Manipulation

When pain produces anxiety and muscle tension, these tense muscles eventually produce spasms, which cause more pain, triggering a pain-spasm-pain cycle.

Learn More

This cycle must first be broken for pain to be reduced or eliminated. Osteomanipulationis a technique that relaxes muscles and tendons, releases pressure from the nerves, increases circulation, and brings oxygen to damaged tissues. Our Doctor has received extensive training in this specialized field. This technique has shown to be more effective than standardized physical therapy.

Moxibustion

Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese medicine therapy using moxa made from dried mugwort.

Learn More

It plays an important role in the traditional medical systems of China (including Tibet). Suppliers usually age the mugwort and grind it up to a fluff; practitioners burn the fluff or process it further into a cigar-shaped stick. They can use it indirectly, with acupuncture needles, or directly above the patient’s skin. It is used to warm specific points on the body to relieve pain or reduce the length and severity of labour in pregnant women.

Beauty treatment

face, which is a complex system of muscles which should all be active to support the face’s structure and promote circulation and the flow of oxygen and nutrients to the skin.

Learn More

Botox injections are a popular treatment in the West for reducing facial wrinkles; however, they are ultimately not beneficial for the face, which is a complex system of muscles which should all be active to support the face’s structure and promote circulation and the flow of oxygen and nutrients to the skin. Our approach is to prevent and slow aging in a natural way. The first stage is acupuncture to stimulate certain points on the face to improve muscle tone, help blood circulation, and make the facial skin tauter. Then facial meridian acupressure is performed to detoxify the face in depth and reduce wrinkles. Finally a fresh herbal mask is prepared individually to suit your skin’s type and condition and to nourish the skin. After only one course of treatment your face will be noticeably younger and more radiant. This is a very effective treatment that many of Dr. Shi’s patients have appreciated and come back for.

Reflexology

Chinese reflexology is the massaging of areas on the feet that correspond to the organs of the body.

Learn More

By applying pressure to these areas it is possible to regulate the function of the organs, clear toxins from the body and prevent illnesses from developing.

Ear candle

also called ear coning or thermal-auricular therapy, is an alternative medicine practice claimed to improve general health and well-being by lighting one end of a hollow candle and placing the other end in the ear canal.

The menopause starts when your body’s level of the hormone estrogen falls to very low levels and your menstrual periods stop for good. Sometimes, younger women need a hysterectomy to treat health problems such as endometriosis or cancer, and after the surgery they will enter into what is known as induced or surgery menopause. The main symptoms of menopause include night sweats, hot flushes, insomnia, mood swings, irritability, headaches, urinary frequency and vaginal problems. Although HRT uses prescription drugs to replace the hormones which the ovaries stop producing at the time of the menopause, HRT is taken only for short periods of time and is not recommended for women who have vaginal bleeding, suspected breast cancer, a history of heart disease, or chronic liver disease.According to Chinese medical theory, the menopause is commonly caused by liver and kidney YIN deficiency as age increases. Herbal remedies can improve the YIN of the liver and kidneys and restore the YIN/YANG balance. It is a natural and safe treatment, avoiding the risks and side-effects of pharmaceutical medicine (cancer, bleeding, etc.). While the menopause symptoms themselves are reduced during treatment, the herbal remedies bring benefits to your general health and well-being for the future. Why not try it?

One in fifty people in the United Kingdom suffers from rheumatoid arthritis alone. This does not include rheumatic arthritis, osteoarthritis and similar conditions. Many people think it is a disease without hope: as one paper puts it, “The cause is unknown and there is no cure”. Practitioners of Chinese medicine take a different view. We think rheumatoid arthritis and all other types of arthritis are controllable and reducible, if not completely curable. Appropriate medical care is important for all sufferers, no matter how mild or severe the case is. The condition and overall state of health can deteriorate very quickly if the arthritis is not addressed.

Eczema is a common form of allergic inflammatory dermatitis. It is often very disturbing to patients because of the extreme itchiness on the affected part of skin, polymorphic skin lesions, and frequent recurrence. Some people have suffered from eczema since infancy. They may have been treated with many types of creams and medicines, without improvement. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) theory, eczema is caused by internal pathogenic heat, dampness, wind, or a mixture of these. The differentiation of these causes can be distinguished by observing the symptoms of the affected skin, the colour of the tongue and its coating, as well as other physiological reactions.Different remedies are then used specifically to reduce heat, remove dampness, expel wind, remedy dryness, or cool the blood. This approach has been tried and tested for thousands of years, and the causes and effective remedies are well documented in Chinese medicine. Most cases of eczema can be treated successfully by taking several sets of Chinese herbal medicine, although some chronic cases require longer treatment.

Alopecia means hair loss, whether male pattern baldness, patchy, or diffuse hair loss. It is mainly due to heredity, stress, depression, endocrine function disorder (high level of male hormones), as well as any factors that contribute to insufficient supply of blood and oxygen to the hair roots. Chinese herbs can improve kidney function, nourish the blood and provide nutrients that are especially important to the hair. Chinese medicine believes that hair loss should be treated both internally (herbs) and externally (herbal tonic lotion and acupuncture) in combination.

With lack of sufficient exercise and a healthy diet many people struggle with weight problems, which not only affects the figure and skin but also, most important, their overall health. Most fat accumulates around the hips and thighs, the tummy, and the upper forearms. Chinese medicine (including herbal remedies and acupuncture) can restore the body to its normal balance. Herbal remedies increase movement in the lymphatic system and enhance metabolism, which helps to break down the cellulite cell’s bonds, stop fat being absorbed, repositioning and smoothing fatty deposits. As the bonds are broken, toxins and trapped fluids are released. At the same time acupuncture stimulates the skin to regain its firmness and elasticity as the weight reduces.

Irregular period means that menstruation is early or late by more than 7 days (except in the case of pregnancy or medical disturbance). Early period is divided into four types: heat in blood due to excess Yang; heat in blood due to Yin deficiency; Kidney Qi deficiency; Spleen Qi deficiency. Delayed period was divided into five types – Blood deficiency; Evil could in blood; Blockage of phlegmy mucus; Liver Qi stagnation; stagnation of Qi and blood. We can help you to re-achieve a normal menstruation cycle after balancing Yin and Yang, adjusting Qi and blood through herbal medicine and acupuncture.

Eczema, psoriasis and acne are among the most common skin problems. Allergic reactions are also very common causes of skin complaints. Traditional Chinese Medicine divides eczema into four types: excess heat and dampness; dampness due to spleen deficiency; excess heat in blood; and Yin deficiency. Psoriasis is divided into two basic types: excess heat and dampness; and dryness due to blood deficiency. Acne is divided into four types: pathological heat in lungs; dampness and heat in spleen and stomach; blood stagnation and blockage by thick mucus. We can help you to identify the root causes of your condition and treat it through herbs and acupuncture.

Infertility refers to the difficulty a woman of normal fertile age has in conceiving, or in carrying a pregnancy to full term, after several months of a normal sex life. This difficulty is usually related to the ovaries (producing only partially developed eggs), to the Fallopian tubes (not smooth enough to allow sperm to pass through), or to the uterus (structural problems). Women in excellent health can experience infertility problems – they often have trouble becoming pregnant or are prone to miscarriage, and IVF and other conventional treatments often prove of no help. If this is your situation, then please come and see us. We can help you with herbs, acupuncture, or both.
